I’ve been a fan of Dual Core for quite sometime and their new album is simply great. I can hardly beleive it’s only been about 18 months since I downloaded their first album. Take note rap fans, this is the future of hip hop.

With a hat tip to Z, the Grauniad is the first of the MSM to pick up on this. Kudos.

5 notebooks

I was chatting with SelimTheGrim a while backand we were talking about notebooks. We’re both inveterate scribblers in such things and I’ve pointed her towards the moleskine via this post from putthingsoff.org. I use different notebooks for different things, which helps me keep oragnised and also indulges my geeky need for things like that sweet &pencil notebook. The notebooks are used for:

  • Tesco Finest A4 Notebook - that’s the large plain black one. This has replaced my 10 year old ADOC binder as my main project book and meeting notebook. It is nice to write in, and the little elasticated clip means I can tuck loose sheets inside and be sure they will survive
  • &pencil small notebook - this is where I keep my gym notes. I love the design of this thing, I just wish I could find a pen to fit the small version, instead of the pencil
  • Paperblanks journal - this is my mad book and journal. A space for me to vomit the more disorganised thoughts from my brain
  • Moleskine Reporter - this is my Universal Capture Device, the little book I take everywhere and scribble thoughts, to dos, and references into. Mine is covered in stickers I find amuse me
  • Miquelrius ringbound notebook spot4 (a5) - this is my wargaming notebook. I use it to capture things like tactics, army lists and the like.

What notebooks do you use?

Anyone who knows me, knows I have a love for stationery that varies on a fetish. Especially Moleskine notebooks. Imagine how excited I was when I saw these beauties on Lifehacker! Roll on pay day!

B3ta would be the place I normally go for cooking advice, but this worked a treat.

Spidey tat pic

With a hat tip to Z, this post from OhGizmo! has a simply wonderful spidey tattoo. I have a fairly basic geektat myself but I must admit to be somewhat in awe of this.

Whilst not a grammar nerd like some I know, I do find the intensity of those who are reassuring. I know grammar, spelling and the like is very important. I know this because I was taught at school. Repeatedly. Being made to redo the same piece of work for days if needed to get the spelling and grammar correct. Whilst this brute force approach did not leave me with the knowledge to really be a proper grammar freak, it did give me respect for those that are.

However I was not really aware of the Typographical Nerd until this article popped up in my RSS feeds [hat tip to 43 folders]. The way in which people are so concerned about this, and the way the mac caters to it with such care makes me smile.

For example there is a debate in the comments section about the correct character to use to divide currency. Should it be £9.99 or £9·99? A period, or an interpunct? And an ellipsis is not just three dots. It is a special character all of it’s own. This I did not know…

So thank you Mr Phin, a most interesting and informative article.

EDIT - Ironically the pound symbols above are not displaying correctly, at least not on Safari on my mac. Can anyone let me know why?
